Tool Wish List

Thanks for your interest in donating to The Tool Library! Our mission is to provide communities with the tools they need to create the change they want. We believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to fixing up your home, growing your own food, or improving your community. That’s why for as little as $30/year, our members can gain access to an inventory of over 5,000 tools! 

Please send an email over to donations@thetoollibrary.org with an itemized list or series of photographs of the items you would like to donate. Once we review your email and reply, you’ll know what we can accept and what not to bring. 

Donations can then be dropped off at The Tool Library’s shop located at 2626 Main Street during our open hours. The Tool Library is a volunteer-powered nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. Please let us know if you need a receipt for your donation. If you are making a large donation we’d love to send you a thank you note if you leave your information with a volunteer!

Do’s and Don’ts of Tool Donation:

We are always working to expand our capacity to accept donations, but for now please be sure to read through these Do’s and Don’ts so we can avoid undue difficulties! 

PLEASE DO:

• Email a photo or list of tools you’d like to donate to donations@thetoollibrary.org 
• Drop-off accepted donations to our storefront during regular hours of operation. (we are still largely volunteer-run and do not have the capacity to offer pick-ups)
• Patronize locally-owned hardware stores if you plan to buy new to donate 
• Let us know if you need a tax receipt for your donation (donations are tax-deductible!)

PLEASE DON’T:

• Donate building materials/supplies (screws, nails, bolts, paint, stain, etc)
• Donate rusted or broken tools
• Donate gas-powered tools
• Show up with donations without first emailing donations@thetoollibrary.org
• Leave donations of tools outside the shop when we’re closed

**Notes on the Tool Wishlist:

Brands: We are seeking brand uniformity with battery-powered tools (Dewalt, Ryobi) — it helps operations go more smoothly. 

With corded power tools and hand tools, the brand is less important, as long as it allows us to provide a high-quality tool to our members.

If you are looking to buy new to donate, we absolutely encourage you to patronize your local neighborhood hardware store. Consider purchasing items from local retailers like Ace Hardware, Valu Home Center, and Hector’s Hardware.
