A real estate investor in the area, Jaspreet loves fixing up and making Buffalo beautiful, whether it’s using The Tool Library’s tools in professional renovation projects or volunteering to plant trees at one of The Tool Library’s community clean-ups. We are grateful to have her as one of the newest members of The Tool Library’s Board and Communications Committee.

How and when did you first get involved with the Tool Library?
I first got involved with The Tool Library by volunteering at some of the community service days. That included planting trees, gardening, and helping with neighborhood cleanups around Buffalo. Through those experiences, I learned about The Tool Library and eventually began borrowing tools for some of my own renovation projects.
What led you to become one of our volunteers?
What led me to becoming a volunteer was really the sense of community I saw during those service days. People from all different backgrounds were coming together simply because they cared about the neighborhood and wanted to make it better. That kind of energy is contagious, and it made me want to stay involved and contribute however I could.
How has volunteering impacted your life and your sense of community?
Volunteering has had a meaningful impact on my life and my sense of community. I come from a Sikh background, where serving others and giving back to the community is a core value. Being involved with The Tool Library has been a way for me to continue that tradition here in Buffalo. It’s rewarding to know that even small efforts can help make our neighborhoods cleaner, stronger, and more connected.
What is your favorite thing to do as a volunteer?
My favorite thing about volunteering is simply being able to make a positive impact in the place where I live. I love being part of community events and working alongside others who care about Buffalo. There’s something really powerful about people coming together to improve their shared space.
Are you happier in the shop or at community events?
I am happier at community events. I really enjoy being in the neighborhood, meeting new people, and seeing everyone come together for a shared purpose. I love seeing the direct impact we can make in the community.
When you’re volunteering, what typically keeps you the busiest? What drew you to Communications?
When I’m volunteering, what usually keeps me busiest is helping with whatever the need is. This can be assisting at events, helping with projects, or connecting with community members. I also love to talk to and work with new volunteers at the events. What drew me to Communications is the opportunity to help tell the story of the work being done. There are so many great volunteers and initiatives happening, and sharing those stories can inspire even more people to get involved.
What is your favorite tool to work with?
As for tools, I’d probably say a good drill is one of my favorites because it’s so versatile and useful for so many different projects.
Anything else you’d like folks to know?
Something else folks might like to know is that I’m always excited to see people learn new skills and feel empowered to take on projects themselves. The Tool Library makes that possible by giving people access to tools, knowledge, and a supportive community. I am proud to be a part of this community and want to see it continue to grow!
