Carlee Avery, a University at Buffalo student from Rochester, joined The Tool Library this summer through the SUNY Empire State Service Corps (ESSC) and has become a core member of the shop.
With a passion for sustainability, she helps with all things in the shop (and may have even served you food at Borrow, Build, and BBQ). Her favorite task is talking to new people about The Tool Library’s mission and signing them up for memberships, which helps her feel connected to the Buffalo community (having spent most of her time on UB’s North Campus). “It’s cool to help people discover this is a thing.”
Knowing little about tools before volunteering here, Carlee is grateful for the confidence and self assurance she has gained through this work. Despite the summer program ending, you will likely see Carlee volunteering at least once a month whether in the shop or at a service day.
