ATTENTION MEMBERS3 day loans will be in effect starting on Wednesday, June 4th! Read below for the how, what, and why!
Q: What changes are starting on June 4th?
A: In an effort to limit wait times as much as possible, we will be transitioning the following high demand tools to a 3 day loan period:
- Pressure washers
- Lawn mowers
- String trimmers
- Lawn Rollers
- Lawn Dethatchers
- Cordless Earth Augers
- Rototillers
- Chainsaws
- Pole Saw
These items will be marked with bright green duct tape.
Q: How will it work?
A: Borrowing periods will be adjusted for high demand tools as follows:
- If taken out on a Wednesday -> Due back on Friday
- If taken out on a Thursday -> Due back on Saturday
- If taken out on a Friday -> Due back on Wednesday
- If taken out on a Saturday -> Due back on Wednesday
These tools will NOT be able to be renewed for any additional days.
All other items will remain on a standard one week loan period.
Q: Why are you making these changes?
A: The Tool Library was founded on principles of access, fairness, and sharing of resources. While our membership has grown significantly over the past year, our inventory has not. We started 2024 with 1,421 and currently have over 2,100 active members!.
This change will allow more people to access more of the tools they need. That means more money saved, more projects completed, and more impact for the WNY community.
Q: What can I do to help?
A:
- Be a Good Borrower – Make sure to stay on top of your loans. The Tool Library only works when built on mutual trust and respect!
- Share Feedback – This is a pilot and we want to know what is and is not working. Please share constructive feedback with our staff and volunteers!
- Become a Donor – We’re looking to grow our number of monthly donors, so we have more consistent funds to fill in the gaps.
